Capitol Theatre
One of my favorite places in the world - I fell in love with this old building the first time I saw it, and its been a good source of inspiration ever since. My classmates could probably tell you how many projects I've done based on this classic piece of architecture; drawings, photographs, paintings, systems. But now they've gone and repainted it, and everything that once spoke of an almost archaic world of still glamour is now lost beneath layers of Nippon paint.
Oh gawd, I just hope GV doesn't buy it over.
HAS-been
Wow, I must say I'm extremely impressed with NTU Hall Admission's new system - what with their high cut off points that virtually render all local students ineligible (or, as they kindly put it, regrettably informed that they are unsuccessful in their applications), the maximum bulk of points being allocated to distance instead of participation (and here even so, people staying right at the other end of the country still apparently fall short of this extremely exclusive list); basically leaving room for foreigners, freshmen and people who so happen to be gifted enough to represent NTU in whatever.
If I'd known this would turn out to be some elitist Country Club membership scheme, you can be sure I wouldn't have wasted my time collecting pennies.
As it is, I certainly don't relish the fact that despite being quite considerably involved in hall activities for the past year, my roomless-ness now hangs on an obscure recommendation list floating about somewhere. Whether I do get it or not is not even the point.
Damn, I could go on forever but rest assured, SAO, you won't hear the end of this - as I said, extremely impressed.
Strrrretch.
Swimming, cycling and a dollop of wild "freestyle" tennis - these past few days have been wrought with more exercise than I've had for the past 2 months or so; yet I find myself wearing thin from the numerous tasks I have to accomplish by this weekend, and sadly, not the workouts.
But maybe that's because I've just reacquainted myself with McDonalds' Seaweed Shaker fries, which really are damn yummy.
Multiply-exposed
Below are a couple of the proud by-products of my new Smena, which some of you might have noticed me carrying around. Yes, it wasn't a toy. And yes, I did fumble a good number of shots. Still, you have to admit the good ones are, well, good.
The beauty of experimental photography is the virtually unconstrained little world where mistakes come as pleasant surprises, and the snap-snap of the camera isn't hampered by anything save for my occasionally clumsy fingers.
But I only just realised how effortless it is to lose friends; a message unsent, a phone left in the hook, a date not met - and before you know it, you get used to it. And it scares me, because some people I really cannot afford to lose.
Just snap-snap.
So you sailed away, into a grey sky morning.
Now I'm here to stay - love can be so boring.
But it's not so bad.
Bella Luna
So, I was watching National Geographic's Moon Mysteries Investigated this afternoon, hoping it'd be another one of those conspiracy-theory documentaries about how the whole world has been fooled by the Secret Service for centuries or something to that effect - but I was sadly let down. Do I really want to know that the moon is moving 4cm away from Earth every year and will one day spiral out into oblivion? No, I can't say I do.
Yali and I have come across some highly implausible and very questionable theories in our time - somehow, late afternoon TV (read: junk) always managed to catch us when we were in Sec3 - like how there are weird cryptozoologic beings called Rods flying around the earth which we can't see because they're flying too fast; like the only sinister explanations for crop circles being huge and deadly precise machines that have not yet been invented by man; and like how (as I was counting on Moon Mysteries Investigated to be) Man never really landed on the Moon and NASA was playing a huge joke on all of us in their blue-screen studios.
I like to think, after watching one of these shows, that I'm in on a secret that the rest of mankind is oblivious to (unless of course, they watch daytime television as well) - so assuming the fact that the moon's largest crater is 1100miles wide in diameter isn't the best of secrets, you really can't blame me for being disappointed. Hell, everyone loves a good conspiracy.
No, Jose Mourinho, I said good.
Burst your bubble.
... And there goes the Treble.
Let's all tip our hats and shed those tears as we watch that sneaky little dream fly by again. Never mind lah, Man U, I'll settle for a double this season - just don't screw up please (x1000).
It's decidedly weird that most of what I write these days has to do with Manchester United and soccer in general. It's also decidedly a good thing because it means I have little else to complain about! Which is, after all, a rather good feeling, albeit leaving me slightly lacking in the post-content* department.
Well a quick update, nonetheless.
I've just finished a year in uni - NTU School of Arts, Design & Media - a year of drawing nude models, building odd sculptures and contraptions, getting burnt by glue guns and most grudgingly, adding a considerable amount to Art Friend's sales receipts. It's been fun and crazy and really crazy at times - but I'm really blessed all the same. And to Group 4, you're the best, no doubt about that - muffins don't lie!
Yah barring the sentimentality and whatnot, 3 months of pure reckless fun have begun and I'm not about to waste it away. Seize the day, I always say...
Right, back to more Family Guy, then.
* I do realise that "post-content" actually has quadruple meanings due to the fact that both "post" and "content" have double meanings, so I suppose for this purpose, the words "blog material" will suffice just as well
